Music

The congregation and Choirs of Trinity United enjoy using Voices United and More Voices as our main sources of music. There are occasions however when we will delve into the more historic Methodist roots and pull out an old gospel song from other publications of the United Church of Canada from gone by years, such as Song of the Gospel.

There is a wealth of talent found among our people. People who enjoy to play guitars and other instruments, and we are truly thankful for these people.

Our Music Program is under the leadership of Mr. James Martin who joined the team on September 30/07.

Trinity United Choir

The Chancel Choir has experienced tremendous growth in 2007 nearly tripling its size from 6 to 21. We enjoy singing a variety of Music, and gather in the sanctuary of Trinity United Wednesdays @ 7:00pm for an 1hour to 1.5hours. We are a closely knit group, which boasts a family oriented feeling among us which is also very diverse in age from 12-86. Once a month we gather at James’s home for practice and a social.

Our Work:

Throughout the year we normally try to put together numerous special events. We have an annual Advent/Christmas Cantata, Easter/Spring Cantata, Variety Concert and Memorial Hymn Sing. Normally the funds collected via a free will offering at our cantatas will go to support our local Good Will Centre and the M&S Fund of the United Church of Canada.

Most recently we started a new annual event called Choir Fest. An event by which we host guest choirs and perform with them, take up a free will offering and donate it to a social justice cause in our area.

We have recently through our efforts namely Variety Concert and Memorial Hymn Sing, raised enough money to purchase new gowns.

Junior Hand Bells:

A small but dedicated group of children who gather weekly to learn and play music and sometimes sing with hand bells.

Adult Hand Bells:

This group is made up of people from the chancel choir who also want to have a hand at playing the hand bells. This group performs usually at choir cantata’s or other special events.

Our Instruments:

James enjoys leading the musical aspect of Trinity’s ministry on our splendid vintage near mint condition 1958 Hammond C-3 Organ, in addition to our magnificient Yamaha baby grand piano. Both of which are enjoyed regularly each Sunday. In addition to these two instruments there are a host of percussion instruments which are used during pre-service singing or when we have an upbeat hymn or short song by various choir members.
