UCW

To unite all women of the congregation for the total mission of the church and to provide a medium through which they may express their loyalty and devotion to Jesus Christ in Christian Witness, Study, Fellowship and Service.”

 History:

The first women’s organization of the United Church of Canada was known as the “Ladies Aid” and their work was entirely the work of the local church.

The next organization to be formed was the W.M.S. (Women’s Missionary Society). Their work was mainly overseas missions.

UCW Was Born:

UCW (United Church Women, now a part of the Women’s Ministry Network), was formed in 1961 with a membership of at least 300,000 women nationally, making it the largest women’s organization in Canada.

Although membership has since fallen accross the country over the years, UCW continues to do a tremendous amount of work to help their congregations. We should reflect on these words at a UCW rally. “The past inspires us the present heartens us, while the future beacons us to new fields of endeavour and service.” We are living in exciting and challenging days of church history.

 UCW at Trinity United:

In 1961 when UCW was formed, Trinity United had five (5) units, and over one hundred (100) members. Today we have two (2) units with a total of 36 members. However we do tremendous work to help with the running of our church. We also contribute to the M&S Fund (Mission and Service Fund),  Provincial Services provided by the United Church of Canada, as well as many local needs.

Our two units are Emmanuel Unit, lead by Mrs. Gloria Roberts and Trinity Unit,  lead by Mrs. Shirley Bridger, both which meet once a month.

Meetings are very enjoyable! We would love to have more women join us in our fun, fellowship and devotion. Any women interested may just come along to our meetings or contact any member for a ride. Be sure to watch the announcements section on the homepage, or the church bulletin for dates and times.UCW

Hi To my fellow UCW members from Florida

This is a great way to keep in touch. Hope that some of the members will read this e-mail.

This has been a busy winter. We had our Strawberry Tea and craft sale. It was a great success. We raised over $1900.00. It was also our quilt show. There has been over 20 quilts hand quilted this season. I have quilted on many of them. My quilt was a log cabin design. I am very pleased with it. I will try to send you a few pictures of the craft and quilts, and our Tea.
See you in another month or so.

Doreen
